Studio Upgrade

Collywood Studios is upgrading by full implementation of the Apogee Symphony system comprising AD-16X/DA-16x’s converters and purchase of Avalon mic pre-amps to produce the highest quality recording capability available.
The upgrade will be completed by June.

Cuba Blog

Photos and a blog of the first four hours of our trip to Cuba have finally been uploaded. The page can be accessed from the sidebar on the right.

Over the next few weeks it will be expanded to include the rest of the trip.

Site Update

The website has been updated with additional clips in the film clip and audio pages as well as a clip from each of six films on the Home page - the selection of which will be rotated periodically. The new additions feature music and clips from Alexander Pearce, September and the SBS campaign.
Photos and video will appear from time to time in the News section which has been updated to accommodate regular postings. Recently added are video clips of the orchestral recording sessions at Studios 301 for the feature film The Extra which provides a small insight into the process of recording the music for those interested.

Also as new recorded material from films/albums becomes available look out for postings and samples in the News section.

Africa’s Elephant Kingdom

April sees the release of the soundtrack to 1998’s Imax film Africa’s Elephant Kingdom which comprises a score recorded in and utilising musicians from Cape Town, Seattle and Sydney. Orchestra is interwoven with African textures around a story of a group of elephants documented on their annual migration across Kenya during a particularly harsh drought.

The CD will be available on iTunes, Amazon mp3, Rhapsody and Napster.

Horses: The Story of Equus Soundtrack Release

Horses: The Story of Equus is an IMAX film released 2002. The soundtrack has been re-released on iTunes, Amazon mp3, Rhapsody and Napster and features electronic, Orchestral and Celtic/Middle Eastern blends to represent the multi heritage and origin of these beautiful animals.

The CD includes an additional 20 minutes of material not included in the film and  extended mixes of existing cues.

 

The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce

Roger has recently completed the soundtrack album for the Last Confession of Alexander Pearce – the real life drama of the events leading to the capture of the colonies most infamous escapee Alexander Pearce in Tasmania 1824 being the only convict of seven others found after several months alive. On Pearce’s confession it was revealed he had murdered and eaten the dead in order to survive – an event which shocked the British establishment of the day to the core. LC of AP features outstanding performances from Adrian Dunbar (The Crying Game,My Left Foot) and Ciaran McMenamin (To End All Wars, Sunday).

The production has been acclaimed internationally for it’s depiction of a man transported for life as a petty thief and transformed through his brutal incarceration into infamy. It has been nominated for an Irish Academy Award.
The soundtrack which utilises a string quintet, dulcimers and prepared cellos with voice has been released on iTunes in February 2009 on Collywood Records.
It is also available for download from Amazon, Rhapsody and Napster and features extended and additional tracks.

The film is aired on the BBC February 24th.

Collywood New Facility

Construction has commenced on Collywood Studios new facility. It will comprise a dedicated orchestral room for 25 – 30 players including 4.5 metre ceiling, live room, iso booth and control room in dedicated 5.1 surround ATC monitoring. The studio is scheduled to be commissioned by the middle of 2010.

A feature of the studio will be it’s seven large floor to ceiling windows to allow the outside environment into the session for a less stress-full and confined atmosphere.

Six Billion Stories

Roger has composed the music for SBS’ rebranding of their television and radio network concept of “Six Billion Stories And Counting”. The campaign released throughout Australia and Southeast Asia resulted in the delivery of over 200 separate cues. The music was nominated for an APRA/AGSC award for Best Music in a Commercial or Station ID.
